Synopsis:

Traversing the majestic Andean Highlands, Atacama Desert, and Coastal Cliffs, Unwelcomed unveils the harsh reality of the Venezuelan migration crisis in Latin America, alongside the cultural clash and radicalization in northern Chile. Through a choral narrative, contrasting perspectives, and an evocative exploration, the film sheds light on universal challenges posed by this social phenomenon.

Amilcar Infante, graduated from Bande À Part School in Barcelona, Director and Founder of Amilcar Films, has written and directed several music videos, short films and video content for different organizations. He is currently preparing his debut feature film ‘Unwelcomed’, while also developing the documentary ‘Nipon Takes’, the documentary series ‘Photos; A Dialogue Between Past and Present’, and co-producing ‘Julio Escamez, Beginning and End’. His directorial credits include ‘Soterrament’ (2017, short documentary), ‘Este Lugar’ (2016, short fiction), ‘Taxista Libre’ (2015, short fiction).

Sebastián González M., graduated in Business and Economics with a Diploma in Executive Production for Film and TV, Sebastián has worked in various production roles for Tercermundo, Glaciar Films, and other national companies, developing different formats such as TV series, webseries, short films and videoclips. He is currently the executive director of Amilcar Films, working in the post production of ‘Unwelcomed’ his first feature documentary, and the distribution of two short films directed and produced by him in 2023. His credits include ‘Consagración’ (2023, short fiction), ‘No lo mires’ (2023, short fiction), ‘Nuevo Mundo; Pintura callejera en America Latina’ (2020, TV series, asst. producer).

Synopsis:

Two filmmakers propose to Cristián Sánchez (70), a cult Chilean filmmaker, to make a film. The condition is that he resurrect the characters of his classic works, but in the form of zombies. He fights to protect his artistic principles, but the process forces him to rediscover himself, transformed into an actor and questioned by his characters, who also begin to form part of his ordinary life.

Fernando L. has made fiction and documentary films. His debut film “Y las vacas vuelan”(2003), is considered one of the films that initiated the so-called Very New Chilean Cinema. In documentaries he directed with Gonzalo Vergara “Este año no hay cosecha”(2000), a film that became a cult after the social unrest, and with Sebastián Lelio, he co-directed the documentary series “Mi Mundo Privado”, semi-finalist of the EMI awards. With the feature films “Las Cosas como Son”(2012) and “Sin Norte”(2015), he won many awards at international film festivals, including Best Film at the Forum of Independents section of the Karlovy Vary Festival and Best Latin American Film at the Mar del Plata Film Festival.

Sebastián Pereira’s first project “Los Iluminados” was premiered in the official selection of FICValdivia (2015) and won Best National Feature Film at the Cine//B_8 Festival (2016). In 2021 he co-founded his production company Lawarrior Films with which he made his first film as producer, “Voy y Vuelvo”, directed by Cristián Sánchez and premiered at the “Chilean Gala” at FICValdivia(2023) and selected at BAFICI(2024). He’s currently developing his next films where he explores between documentary and fiction genre; “Nada es como antes” (Chile, 2024) selected for WIP FECICH 2023 and VdR Market 2023, “La Gran Ilusión”, (Chile-Cuba 2024) Doc:Lab Award -FIDBA 2023 and selected for WIP MAFIZ 2024, and “El Realismo Después de la Revolución” (Chile – France 2025).

Francisco Hervé is a Chilean producer, screenwriter, and director. He has made documentary films such as “The Other One” (2020), “Beaverland” (2014), and “The Lost City” (2016), awarded at the most important festivals in the world. In fiction, he seeks to smuggle a reflection on reality into films of various genres, such as the suspense of “Immersion” (2021), the comedy of “Nakamura”, the western of “La Hija del Pacífico”, or the adventure of “Vaterland” (in development)

Synopsis:

In 1895, during the genocide of the Selk’nam people in the Chilean Patagonia, 165 indigenous were captured and brutally deported from their territory. Their children were taken by European settlers and forced to work as servants. A century later, a young Selk’nam descendant, driven by a painful family history, makes the journey back to her ancestral territory to prove that they are not extinct.

Constanza Vásquez Palau is a journalist. She has worked as a researcher for documentary series on indigenous topics, seeking to give voice to the protagonists and tell their stories in an intimate and respectful way. Previously, she developed her career in television, participating in documentary series, news and entertainment shows. “Returning Where I Have Never Been” is her debut as a documentary filmmaker.

Andrés Morales Zambra is a filmmaker based in Santiago de Chile. He is a director, producer and screenwriter of short fiction and documentary films with a focus on heritage and history. Andrés also holds a degree in Architecture from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2013) and a Master in History and Cultural Heritage Management from the Universidad de Los Andes (2022).

Alejandra Rosas is a journalist and holds a Master’s Degree in Documentary Film from the University of Chile. She has a diploma in film distribution from EICTV, Cuba. Founder of Tonina Sur Film, she produces documentaries where her greatest strength is to recognize extraordinary stories of ordinary people. Magdalena Ponce is a journalist and Public Relations specialist, with a diploma in Distribution Channels and Marketing from Buenos Aires, Argentina. As the founder of Tonina Sur Films, she is involved in documentary and television projects. Synopsis:

Aliyah in Hebrew means to go up and immigrate to Israel; Yeridah, the opposite, to descend and emigrate. From family archives the director tries to understand the motivations of his paternal family to emigrate to Israel in the 1970s, as well as the disappointments that brought them back to Chile, a decade later. That rise and fall is contrasted with his own experience in Chile, Israel and Palestine.

He is in postproduction of his first feature documentary “Aliyá, Yeridá”, winner of the Chilean Film Fund.

Joaquín Echeverría was born in 1989 in Santiago de Chile. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering in Construction Management from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MA in Philosophy from Birkbeck, University of London. He is currently based in London, UK. He has produced five short films and five feature films. It has premiered at Sundance (“Much ado about nothing”), Cannes (“Los perros”), Toronto (“And the whole sky fits in the dead cow’s eye”), Venice (“The Blind Christ” and “Austral Fever”), FIDBA (“The Ram’s nap”), Valdivia (“Ivy”) and BAFICI (“A dark light”). He is currently in postproduction with the feature documentary “Aliyá, Yeridá” from director Rafael Guendelman and the feature “You, the artist” by Flavia Contreras. He is in distribution of the short film “We will burn” by Simón Vargas. He is developing animation, documentary and fiction projects.

Imam Hasanov is an award-winning filmmaker from Baku, Azerbaijan. His first feature film, Holy Cow, was an Arte/ZDF co-production garnering support from the Sundance Institute, the Doha Institute, and Medienboard Berlin Branderburg. It premiered in the First Appearance Competition at IDFA in 2015, going on to play at HotDocs, many film festivals, and selling to TV channels around the world. Imam is also an alumnus of the Berlinale Talents and Sarajevo Talents. Imam founded an independent production company Free Art which supports creative documentaries with local impact and global relevance. Imam is also the co-founder and director of DokuBaku IDFF, the first international and the only independent documentary film festival in Azerbaijan, and the DokuBaku Film School for emerging Azerbaijani filmmakers.

Maria Ibrahimova’s documentary Miss Gulag, produced with support from the Sundance Institute and the Ford Foundation, premiered at the Berlinale, and screened at 40 festivals and TV around the world, including the BBC. She is a two-time Berlinale Talent, EWA Mentee, and Fulbright Fellow. She completed the EAVE Producer’s Workshop in 2023 and the ACE Mentoring Program. With the American Embassy in Baku, she created Women in Motion, a program bringing Azerbaijani women into the film industry. She produced The Fisherman’s Daughter, with A. Rodnyanski (Leviathan,Loveless), and distributed by Wild Bunch. She recently produced We are Russia a documentary about young activists that supported Alexei Navalny, premiering in Visions du Reel and DOC NYC. Faezeh Nikoozad is an Iranian filmmaker based in Hamburg. She earned a BA in Production and Costume Design in Tehran and her BA and MA in Film at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Her shorts have been presented and awarded at numerous international film festivals.

In a mental health institution in Kyev, a theater troupe of patients stages a prophetic play, as the full invasion of Ukraine is about to happen. Polina Kelm graduated from Kyiv National I.K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and TV University as a film director in 2010. Works with fiction and documentary projects. She played as an actress in the film by O.Balagura ‘Lifespan Of The Object In Frame’ (special mention at the FIDMarseille) in 2012. She is one of the founders of the Ukrainian Guild of Directors. Synopsis:

Alba, at 25, discovers Johnny isn’t her real father, unraveling a web of family secrets. Her grandmother Rosa fled Trieste in the 80s with her mother Ivana, joining a cult in Bangkok, practicing “Flirty Fishing” for new members. Alba was born there as Jesus Baby, with a brother from another member. After a decade, Rosa fled back to Italy with Ivana and the children. Alba, devoid of cult memories, uncovers her past through research and hints from Rosa and Ivana. Rosa denies her past, becoming a wedding planner, while Ivana, suffering psychiatric issues, struggles with her past. “White Lies” delves into three women’s journey for reconciliation and redemption through Alba’s artistic lens.

Born in Bangkok in 1987, since childhood she led a nomadic life that brought her to live in different cities and countries. Her recent works include Occult (2020-), a visual study on the propaganda of the cult Children of God, she travelled tracing her mothers past to India, Nepal and Thailand. The Y- Research of Biological Father (2017), born out of a journey in search of her origins through the father she never knew. Places (2015), a book and a photographic project executed with ElementWo, witch deals with analysis of the visual communication of ISIS propaganda. She has released the short documentary FreiKörperKultur (2021) premiered at the Venice International Critics’ Week. With The Y she is part of the Foam Talents 2020.  Her work has been exhibited in international festivals and museums such as MAXXI, Rome, London Art Fair, Circulation Paris and Athens Photo Festival.

Manuela Buono was born and lives in Trieste (Italy). In 2013 she founded production and distribution company Slingshot Films, based in Trieste. Mega Plus 2010 graduated, (Media Business School Master in European Audiovisual Management), she received a Nipkow fellowship in 2011 and was selected for Berlinale Talent – Distribution Studio, in 2014 and Rotterdam Producers’ Lab in 2024. She is member of the European Film Academy (EFA) and European Women Association in Audiovisual Industry (EWA).
