Composers on the Rise

Meet the 5 emerging composers of the 2026 edition!

The Marché du Film is expanding its commitment to film music composers with the launch of a brand-new 2026 pilot program, designed to spotlight a new generation of talent: Composers on the Rise.

Building on the success of Spot the Composer, the initiative has selected 5 international early-career film composers attending Cannes, offering them a platform to take part in one-on-one meetings with short film directors, a case study session with one of our Spot the Composer alumni, and a private masterclass with a renowned film composer — providing practical insights into the craft and business of film scoring.

Participants will also receive exclusive support from Roland — a world-leading music instrument and software company — including a voucher and a subscription to Roland Cloud Ultimate, to further empower participants in their creative process and open up new professional opportunities in the field of film music.

The 2026 Godmother of Composers on the Rise

For its inaugural edition, Composers on the Rise introduces a new tradition inspired by the spirit of mentorship and artistic transmission: the appointment of a Godmother or Godfather, an established creative figure invited to share experience, vision, and guidance with the next generation of film composers.

We are proud to welcome Eiko Ishibashi as Godmother of this year’s program. An award-winning film composer known for her distinctive and boundary-pushing musical language (Drive My Car, Evil Does Not Exist), she embodies a singular artistic path that bridges experimentation and cinematic storytelling. In her role as Godmother, Eiko Ishibashi will offer selected participants valuable insights and practical guidance on building a career in film scoring.

Introducing this year’s Guest Mentor

Composers on the Rise continues to foster a spirit of exchange and artistic dialogue by also welcoming internationally acclaimed composer Nainita Desai as a Guest Mentor.

An Emmy-winning composer for film, television, and games, Nainita Desai is renowned for her bold and emotionally immersive scores. Her work spans scripted, documentary, and interactive storytelling, with credits including Nautilus, 14 Peaks, and the BAFTA-winning immersive project Immortality. She has also contributed to internationally celebrated films such as the Cannes-winning For Sama and Sundance award winners The Reason I Jump and Nocturnes.

As this year’s Composers on the Rise Mentor, Nainita Desai will engage directly with selected participants through one-on-one mentoring sessions, offering tailored guidance on their creative and professional development. She will also lead an in-depth case study, sharing insights into her compositional process and approach to storytelling through music —providing participants with a unique opportunity to learn from one of today’s most distinctive voices in screen composition.
