🎉 3 Big Success Stories Out of Ventana Sur
Ventana Sur — the biggest film industry event in Latin America co-organized with the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes and the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) — is proud to kick off the new year by highlighting the latest achievements from previous market finalists!
“The Wasteland (El Páramo)”
This cabin-in-the-woods horror/thriller, directed by Spanish filmmaker David Casademunt, was originally presented as “The Beast (La Bestia)” in Ventana Sur’s 2017 Blood Window pitching program, a unique platform dedicated to genre films from Latin America. The project eventually found its way to production company Rodar y Rodar, and the finished film was finally released earlier this month on Netflix worldwide.
“Fogaréu”
Brazilian director Flávia Neves unveiled her project back in Ventana Sur’s section Primer Corte, which showcases various films in post-production. The story about a woman looking into her ancestral roots will be screened in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival, taking place from 10-20 February 2022.
“Sublime”
Another Ventana Sur selection making its world premiere in Berlin next month is the debut film from Argentine director Mariano Biasin. The coming-of-age drama was all the buzz at the recent 2021 edition of Ventana Sur. As one of six works-in-progress in the Copia Final section, the film was quickly picked up by Buenos Aires-based sales agency Meikincine and will be screened in the Generations section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
Through its different sections, such as Primer Corte, Copia Final, Blood Window, Animation! and Proyecta, Ventana Sur has nurtured and established careers of many up-and-coming talents and is proud of becoming the place of opportunity for Latin American filmmakers to sign with major agencies, get their scripts sold, find funding or have their films distributed or programmed in other festivals.
