Synopsis:
In postwar Rome, Delia (Paola Cortellesi) is a wife and mother of three, living in a household marked by poverty and domestic violence. Between caring for her demanding father-in-law and confiding in her friend Marisa, she endures a life defined by duty. The family eagerly awaits the engagement of her daughter Marcella to Giulio, seen as a chance for a better future. But when Delia receives a mysterious letter, she begins to question her fate and imagine a different life.
Director’s biography:
Paola Cortellesi (Rome, 1973) is an actor, writer, and director. She is one of the most dynamic and versatile artists on the Italian scene. Her career started in 1995 with her debut on stage, and spanned from cinema to TV earning her the most prestigious awards: Hystrio Award (2007,) Le Maschere Award and Critics Award (2006), David di Donatello (2011), Silver Ribbon (2018, 2019, 2020), and Italian Golden Globe (2018). In 1997, she became known on TV as a writer, actor, and comedian, for her participation in satirical programs as well as variety shows. In 2004 and 2008, she staged her one-woman shows Nessundorma and Non Perdiamoci di Vista, while in 2004 she hosted the 54th Sanremo Music Festival alongside Simona Ventura. In 2007, she won a Roma Fiction Fest Award for her performance in the TV series Maria Montessori by G.M. Tavarelli. In 2011, she received a David di Donatello for Best Actress in Escort in Love by M. Bruno. In 2014, she garnered a double Biglietto d’oro for the box office hits A Boss in the Living Room by Luca Miniero and Sotto una buona stella by Carlo Verdone, as well as a Flaiano Award. The following year, she worked with Dario Fo in his TV/theatre piece Callas, directed by Fo himself, while in 2016, she wrote a show that she hosted together with international singer Laura Pausini, Laura Paola. Between 2015 and 2019 she wrote and interpreted Do You See Me? by Riccardo Milani, Something New by Cristina Comencini, The Last Will Be the Last by Massimiliano Bruno, Mom or Dad?, Don’t Stop Me Now, and Like a Cat on a Highway, all by Riccardo Milani. In 2018, she starred in The Legend of the Christmas Witch by Michele Soavi. In 2020, she was a leading character in Figli, written by Mattia Torre and directed by Giuseppe Bonito, for which she received a Silver Ribbon for the third year in a row. In 2020 and 2022, she starred in Sky show Petra, directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi, which earned her a Silver Ribbon for the TV. In 2020, she played Nilde Iotti in the documentary movie by Peter Marcias. In 2021, she joined Antonio Albanese for the sequel to Like a Cat on a Highway by Riccardo Milani, which earned a Biglietto d’oro 2021. In 2022, she made her debut as a director with a film of her own writing, There’s Still Tomorrow.

In 2025, among others, also The Forbidden City by Gabriele Mainetti, An Upside-Down Family by Alessandro Genovesi, Paternal Leave, directorial debut by Alissa Jung and winner of the AG Kino-Gilde Award – Cinema Vision 14plus at the Berlin Film Festival and The Eyes of Others by Andrea De Sica, winner of the Best Actress award at the Rome Film Fest and at the cinema from March 19, 2026. Wildside also established itself in the TV series scene by producing for HBO The Young Pope and The New Pope by Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino; The Brilliant Friend by Saverio Costanzo, based on Elena Ferrante tetralogy; and the television debut of writer Niccolò Ammaniti The Miracle, which garnered great success with audiences and critics; the first and second seasons of The Mafia Kills Only in the East.
