Le Marché du Film est très fier d’avoir accueillit les 10 compositeurs/compositrices de films internationaux pour l’édition 2023 de son programme Spot the Composer. Du 20 au 21 mai, ils/elles ont participé à des rencontres individuelles visant à les associer à des projets de films et à créer des collaborations harmonieuses.

Renaud Barbier (France)

After 10 years of classical piano, Renaud studied at the Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) in Jazz Performance, Film Scoring and Jazz Composition. Since the years 2000, he composed many scores for feature films, TV movies, TV series and documentaries. Among the feature films, “Le serpent” (2007) “Le Dernier Diamant” (2014), “It’s Better If Gabriela Doesn’t Die” (2007) and the animated feature film “Le tueur de Montmartre” (2007). Renaud then worked on “La promesse de l’aube” (Romain Gary’s book adaptation, 2017). The last feature film he worked on is “Petit Pays” aka “Small Country”, an African childwood (Gaël Faye’s book adaptation, 2020).

Erwann Chandon

Erwann has just finished two feature films (« Chasse gardée » by Fred Forestier and Antonin Fourlon and « Complètement Cramé » by Gilles Legardinier). He recently composed music for Maïmouna Doucouré’s film « Hawa » (Amazon Prime) and Samuel Collardey’s documentary series « Moochie ». Previously, he scored « A Polar Year » (Samuel Collardey), « Quand On Crie au Loup » (Marilou Berry) and « Simon’s Got a Gift » (Leo Karmann) for which he won 2 awards (Best Score – Boston Sci-FI 2022 and Prix Michel Legrand 2021 – Best Emerging Talent). He also has composed the original music for numerous short films.

Darren Fung
(United States of America)

A three-time Canadian Screen Award winner and International Film Music Critics Association Award nominee with over 100 composition credits to his name, Canadian-born Darren Fung is well-respected in the film, television and concert worlds. His work on Niobe Thompson’s « The Great Human Odyssey and Equus: Story of the Horse » received widespread critical acclaim, winning the 2016 and 2019 Canadian Screen Awards for Best Non-Fiction Music, and has been presented in concert with orchestras across Canada. His diverse credits include numerous orchestral arrangements for artists and orchestras internationally, and film scores.

Emilie Gassin & Ben Violet (France)

Ben and Emilie are Franco-Australian composers and multi-instrumentalists. Their versatility has led them to compose the music for several films and various TV shows. They have also teamed up with different artists to produce, write and play on studio albums and on stage. Working together for many years, the duo take us on a journey, drawing inspiration from the works of Chostakovich and Ravel, as well as pop artists such as Feist and Joni Mitchell. They deliver a perfectly colorful palette, mixing symphonic orchestration, profound and delicate music and original songs that they write, perform and produce at home, in their studio. They are currently working on their debut album.

Valentin Hadjadj

Valentin Hadjadj has composed the music for several feature films such as « Close » (Grand Prix Cannes 2022, nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globes) and « Girl » by Lukas Dhont (Caméra d’or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018), « The Last of the Jews » by Noé Debré, « Rialto » by Peter Mackie Burns and « A Bigger World » by Fabienne Berthaud (both selected at the Venice Film Festival in 2019), the animated film « Avril et le Monde Truqué » (Cristal for best film at Annecy 2015), as well as for some twenty short films.

Natalie Holt
(United Kingdom)

Natalie Holt is a multi-award winning British composer who trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the National Film & Television School. She is the first woman to score a live action Star Wars project.  Her numerous film and television credits include the « Obi-Wan Kenobi » (Disney+) with John Williams, the Marvel television series « Loki » (starring Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson), the Netflix film « Fever Dream » (Dir: Claudia Llosa), the BBC’s « Wallander » (starring Kenneth Branagh), « Knightfall » (starring Mark Hamill), « Paddington » (starring Hugh Bonneville), « Deadwater Fell » (starring David Tennant) and the award-winning BBC drama « Three Girls ». An accomplished violinist and violist, she has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Michael Paraskevas (
United States of America)

Michael Paraskevas is a Los Angeles-based composer deeply immersed in storytelling through film and visual media. He loves exploring a variety of styles in his music and enjoys working with ambitious artists to share engaging and impactful stories. He has worked on projects such as « Shazam! Fury of the Gods », « Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania », « Hawkeye », « Frozen II », « This World Won’t Break », and « WandaVision ». Texas-born and raised, Michael studied music composition at the University of Tulsa and film scoring at the Seattle Film Institute, where he studied with Hummie Mann. Since then, he has worked closely with distinguished composer, Christophe Beck on many of today’s biggest hits.

Jaimee Jimin Park (South Korea)

Born in South Korea, Jaimee Jimin Park is a Los Angeles-based composer whose nearly life-long connection with music has led her to believe that music composition is something she was born to do. Jaimee has collaborated with filmmakers, game developers, and musicians in LA; she scored 3 features (“D.O.A”, “Leaves on the Ground”, “Hiding Places”), and 13 shorts as a main composer and contributed to DC Animated Movie as an additional music composer. She has been working with Pete Anthony on major projects in Hollywood (“The Mandalorian”, “Willow”, “Fantastic Beasts III”, etc.) and working as a freelance orchestrator (for “Frozen Planet II”, “The Clauses”) at Fine Line Music Service.

Emily Rice (United Kingdom)

Emily Rice is an LA-based, British-born composer for film and TV, known for her dark, post-classical score to the Netflix series « The I-Land » and for creating an introspective, bluesy-cello based score for « Miss Juneteenth ». Other recent projects include the Netflix anime film « Sol Levante » and documentaries « 100 Years From Home », « For the Love of Rutland » and « No Ordinary Campaign ». Emily has contributed music and/or orchestration to major Hollywood productions such as « Tomb Raider », « Alita: Battle Angel », « The Mummy » and « Star Trek: Discovery ». Emily began her musical life as a cellist playing in orchestras and rock bands. Her debut instrumental album « Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner » was released in 2021 and is available on streaming platforms worldwide.

Pedro Santiago (Brazil)

Pedro Santiago was born in Paris – France, and raised in São Paulo – Brazil. He has been a music producer and soundtrack composer for fifteen years. Bachelor of Music from Santa Marcelina University in São Paulo, he works between Europe and Brazil. Speaks French, Portuguese and English fluently, and has a good Spanish. He has in his career made: three TV series, eleven feature films, more than twenty-five short films awarded in National and International Film Festivals.Active in the african brazilian cinema, having composed for the feature films “Temporada” (Locarno 2018) and “Ela volta na Quinta” (FID Marseille, Rotterdam IFF) by André Novaes.
