The Marché du Film launches a virtual market for industry professionals impacted by COVID-19

The Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes announces the launch of a virtual market to support the film industry and help professionals connect during this trying time.

The new virtual market is intended to facilitate business and networking for film industry professionals from all over the world. The virtual market will run alongside the physical Marché for film industry professionals who would not be able to attend Cannes.

📆 The Festival de Cannes, and concurrently the Marché du Film, might now be moved to late June.

The virtual market will include:

  • Screenings: each theatrical screening will also screen simultaneously online in addition to a second run option available for people in different time zones. The new platform will be based on Cinando’s technology and strict security measures – incl. DRM, individual watermark and ‘attendance’ reports.
  • Video meetings: participants can request and organize meetings via the Marché du Film networking app Match&Meet, either physically on their booths or virtually through a Zoom video call directly within the app.

In the event that the Marché du Film is cancelled in Cannes, the same tools will be used to create a standalone virtual market. The online screenings – incl. feature films and promo reels – will still follow the same screenings schedule to keep up the Marché momentum even from afar. Sales companies will also have the option to run catch-up screenings of their films. The platform will also offer curated 1-to-1 meetings, as an online counterpart to our Speed-meetings.

The Marché is in advanced discussions with CAA (who announced a similar initiative on Tuesday) about a coordinated and collaborative joint effort to offer the most efficient support possible to the entire global film industry, from major studios to smaller independent companies.

The virtual market will be open to Marché du Film participants who have already registered online for a Marché badge this year. Accreditations will be available for online participants for € 185 – including access to the virtual market and a one-year subscription to Cinando.

The Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes continues to monitor news of the spread of COVID-19 daily. Our teams are mobilized and ready to respond with creativity and innovation to support every member of our growing Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes family across the world.

We at the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes wish to express our support for all of the events that have been cancelled or postponed and encourage everyone to stay healthy and safe at home.
