Synopsis:

In the year 1998, being arrested on suspicion my uncle Bernardo Oyarzún portrayed himself as a delinquent, evidencing the stigma against his indigenous appearance. Heir to the same skin, I scan the records of his artworks, finding my own reason to give expresion to the dispossession of our mapuche identity. Recovering the memory of my family, I found the mapuzugun, my ancestors’ abandoned language.

Director’s profile:

Daniel Díaz Oyarzún. Film and TV maker (University of Chile). Master in Scriptwritting (Finis Terrae University). Writer of comics and webseries. Five years ago he started studying Mapuzugun (Mapuche language) and discovered the importance of the cultural industry in revitalizing indigenous languages. With this objective in mind, he began writing his first documentary BAJO SOSPECHA in Mapuzugun. Likewise, for two years he has been developing an investigation on the documentary genre from a Mapuche historical point of view, giving workshops where Western documentary theories are debated. He is currently developing projects to rescue the Mapuche audiovisual heritage, and audiovisual production projects that expand the expressive possibilities of his people in contemporary times.

Esteban Sandoval C.(1990). Santiago, Chile. Film and TV producer from Universidad de Chile. He has internalized his work as a producer from socio-cultural and exploratory motivations in film, media arts and new technologies, such as LA CONMEMORACIÓN (2020), PERRO BOMBA (2019), CUERPO DESCENTRADO (2019), LA DUDA (2017), KRUDO WEBSERIE (2015), BAJO SOSPECHA (2022), and ESCAFANDRA (2023). She was Ingrid Veniger’s production assistant on HE HATED PIGEONS (Punk Films 2015). She attended the Marché du Film thanks to PERRO BOMBA (2019). He is currently developing KAYE the second feature film by Juan Cáceres with Infractor Films; he is founding partner and executive director of Pejeperro Films, innovating from media art and contemporary cinematography.

Synopsis:

The once estranged son of Chilean police chief accused of murder during the Pinochet dictatorship sets out on a 13 year quest to understand and repair a dark and broken past. In the course of his journey he meets the children of his father’s victims as well as other people whose fathers have killed on behalf of the military regime.

Director’s profile:

Pepe Rovano’s work explores personal stories linked to themes of human rights and environmental justice. His work moves fluidly between documentary film, installation and performance art, employing archival footage, original recordings and images to create immersive and interactive narratives to reflect upon, reconstruct and generate dissident memory/ acts of subversive memory. He directs the artistic residency Totoral Media Lab in Wenamapu, Limache. In 2019 he presented MEMORIAL ROCAS in an “ Idoc – in augmented reality” version at several prominent film festivals and galleries throughout Europe and Chile. He recently received funding from Chile’s National Council of Arts and Culture (Fondo Audiovisual) for the development of his documentary project, BASTARD: THE LEGACY OF A CRIMINAL.

Clara Taricco: She has produced two films by renowned documentary director, Maite Alberdi: TEA TIME (2015) and THE GROWN-UPS (2016), both premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). Additionally, Taricco produced the short film I’M NOT FROM HERE (2017) of Alberdi`s and the featured film ONCE THE NIGHT (2018) directed by Antonia Rossi, which premiered at the FIDMarseille Festival.

Synopsis:

Two filmmakers use fiction cinema to reconstruct what their fathers lived trough in a torture center 45 years ago. They both involve their families in the staging process with the actors, and behind the cameras the emotional traces that the different generations carry with that familiar story, are revealed, because only one of their fathers survived, the other one is still detained-disappeared.

Director’s profile:

Roberto Baeza (Chile, 1974) has been a professor of cinema for 12 years at the Universidad del Desarrollo, he also founded and directs La Toma Film Academy since 2003. His work includes directing the television series FILMOGRAFÍAS (2010) winning project of the Audiovisual Fund and broadcasted by channel 13C hosted by Blanca Lewin. Roberto also was the editor of the documentary feature DARÍO EN TOMA (2014) by JM Oñate; and has had a long experience as a Director’s Assistant: ISIDORA, LA PELÍCULA (2012) by Nicolás Superby, BARETA (2013) by Roberto Farías, ASEO GENERAL (2009) by Paulina Costa. MEETING POINT is his first documentary feature length as a director.

Paulina Costa (Chile, 1974). She studied Drama in Santiago, Filmmaking at Séptima Ars (Spain); and Film Production at EICTV, Cuba. In 2003, she founded La Toma, an audiovisual school and production company located in Santiago de Chile. Her credits include director of ASEO GENERAL (2008), Best Short Film Award at Viña del Mar Film Festival; producer of PERKIN (2018) by Roberto Farías, selected in the Chilean Film Competition at SANFIC 14; DARIO EN TOMA (2014), a documentary film by JM Oñate; BARETA (2014) by Roberto Farías; QUIERO ENTRAR (2011) by Roberto Farías, Official Selection in FICValdivia and earned the People’s Choice Award at the Antofagasta Film Festival; FILMOGRAPHIES (2010), a TV series directed by Roberto Baeza. Today she is producer of MENARQUIA by Jairo Ramos (Ibermedia Fund, Panama Co-production) and MEETING POINT by Roberto Baeza.

Synopsis:

In the 80s during the military dictatorship in Chile, my uncle Jarda came from Europe, with a VHS camera. He brought the ashes of his mother, my great – aunt Edita. They said that she lost her mind, was a Trotskyist and Bauhaus Student. They did not want to talk about politics and religion. A dialogue between madness and sanity, certainty and uncertainty, neurosis and wisdom. Was Edita really crazy?

Graduated in Documentary Film and makeup artist of film, tv and advertising, she has been in the audiovisual field form more than 25 years. She introduced in the documentary creation area and EDITA is her first feature documentary. Also, she works for the different universities.
